POP or IMAP?aromero22019-05-20T22:05:04+00:00

POP or IMAP?

Personal and Business Email Packages only have POP account Capabilities. Email Ultimate Business accounts have unlimited storage and IMAP capabilites which allow you to sinc across all devices.

What is the difference between POP and IMAP?

POP stands for Post Office Protocol, and was designed as a simple way to access a remote email server. The most recent version is POP 3, and is supported by virtually all email clients and servers.

POP works by downloading your emails from your provider’s mail server, and then marking them for deletion there. This means you can only ever read those email messages in that email client, on that computer. You will not be able to access any previously downloaded emails from any other device, or with any other email client, or through webmail.

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol, and was designed specifically to eliminate the limitations of POP.

IMAP allows you to access your emails from any client, and any device, and webmail login at any time, until you delete them. You are always seeing the same emails, no matter how you access your provider’s server.

Since your email is stored on the provider’s server and not locally, you may run into email storage limits, when using IMAP.

What is managed WordPress Hosting?aromero22019-05-20T22:24:25+00:00

What is managed WordPress Hosting?

Managed WordPress is our streamlined, optimized hosting platform for building and managing WordPress sites. The entire hosting environment is built around making your WordPress sites run faster and more securely.

“Managed” for WordPress means that we handle basic hosting administrative tasks, such as installing WordPress, automated daily backups, WordPress core updates and server-level caching.

Check out some of what it offers:

Performance-enhancing caching
Automatic WordPress core updates through WordPress’ built-in functionality
Enhanced security through restricting file access (more info) and Sucuri
The latest version of WordPress automatically installed in the root directory
sFTP and phpMyAdmin access.
Automatic, daily backups (Pro plans: stored for 90 days; all other plans: 30 days)
SSL included for one site for improved security (Ultimate and Pro plans)

Because of these accounts’ optimized configurations, there are also some limitations you should know:

Managed WordPress does not support WordPress MU/Multisite
Its hosting back-end does not come with a standard hosting control panel, so tools like system-level jobs aren’t available – but WordPress crons run automatically.

Should I choose a Windows or Linux hosting account?aromero22019-05-20T22:29:05+00:00

Should I choose a Windows or Linux hosting account?

If you’ve already decided you need a hosting account, you might get slipped up when you get asked, “Linux or Windows?” Fortunately, there isn’t a big difference between them and either type of account works for most customers.

To make sure you do get the right type of account, though, you should choose the type of hosting account you want based on how you’re building your site.

Development Tool	Linux	Windows
WordPress® or other Web apps	✓	–
Dreamweaver or other WYSIWYG apps	✓	–
PHP, MySQL, CGI, Python, or Perl	✓	–
ASP, ASP.NET, MS SQL	–	✓
ASP, ASP.NET and PHP, MySQL	–	✓
I have no idea what any of this means	✓	–

It’s important to note that these are just our recommendations. Windows accounts will actually support most of these development tools (more info), but Linux hosting best fits most customers hosting needs.

Why should I buy Office 365 from GoDaddy if I already have Office on my desktop?aromero22020-11-04T22:38:31+00:00

Why should I buy Office 365 from GoDaddy if I already have Office on my desktop?

If you purchase our Premium Security or Business Premium plan, you’ll get the latest version of Office, featuring the latest versions of the desktop applications you know and love — Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access (PC only), OneNote and Publisher. And whenever Office is updated, you will automatically receive the latest upgrade at no additional charge so that you’re always on the current version of Office.

Our Office 365 plans give you the ability to easily and securely share and collaborate on documents using OneDrive for Business and Office Online. With Online Essentials and Business Premium you can also create a domain-based email address and share calendars and contacts with people inside and outside of your company. Finally, unlike the Office you currently have, Office 365 from GoDaddy gives you real-time meeting and screen sharing.

With the Premium Security or Business Premium plans, can I download the 5 installs of Office on my employees’ computers?

The desktop Office licenses that come with the Premium Security or Business Premium plans are associated with an individual user’s account, including that individual’s sign in and password information. Downloading a copy onto an employee’s computer would give them access to your documents.

We highly recommend that anyone in your organization needing the latest desktop version of Office have their own Premium Security or Business Premium account.

With these versions of Office, you can select files stored in the cloud and edit them using your desktop applications instead of Office Online. Simply open the file you wish to edit, click ‘Edit in Word/Excel/PowerPoint’ and when you click ‘Save’ within those applications, your document will sync back to your storage.

What is the cloud?aromero22020-11-04T22:42:42+00:00

What is the cloud?

Working or storing files in ‘the cloud’ means that your files are stored securely on the Internet — not on your hard drive — so you can access them anytime, anywhere, from almost any device connected to the Web.

You don’t need to buy additional software and you’re not dependent on your computer to get work done. Plus, since your documents are stored on secure servers, you have peace of mind knowing that, even if your hard drive crashes or you spill coffee on your computer, your documents and programs are safe and accessible from any web browser.
